Arcade Fire haben ihr neues Studioalbum veröffentlicht. WIR, Die sechste LP des Alt-Rock-Kollektivs ist jetzt über Columbia erhältlich. Es ist die erste Veröffentlichung der Band seit dem Ausscheiden des langjährigen Bandmitglieds Will Butler Ende letzten Jahres.

Win Butler und Co. verzeichnet WIR in New Orleans, Texas und Maine mit Radioheads häufigem Studiobesucher Nigel Godrich. Das Album enthält die zuvor veröffentlichten Singles „The Lightning I, II“ und „Unconditional I (Lookout Kid)“ sowie einen Gastbeitrag von Peter Gabriel.

Arcade Fire plante ursprünglich, den Nachfolger von 2017 aufzunehmen Alles jetzt im Februar 2020; natürlich liefen die Dinge nicht wie geplant. Anstatt dieses Projekt abzuschließen, beschlossen Win Butler und die Multiinstrumentalistin Régine Chassagne, den Kurs zu ändern und weiter neue Musik zu schreiben: „Es war das längste, was wir je mit Schreiben verbracht haben, ununterbrochen, wahrscheinlich jemals“, sagte Butler in einer Erklärung.

Arcade Fire hat einige gehänselt WIR Kürzungen im März während ihrer Reihe von Benefizkonzerten in der Ukraine, die mit einem überraschenden Auftritt von David Byrne im New Yorker Bowery Ballroom endeten. Letzten Monat spielten sie einen Überraschungs-Gig im Coachella, und dieses Wochenende feiern sie ihr fünftes Mal, dass sie die musikalischen Gäste sind Samstagabend live.
