„Dirty Dancing“-Fortsetzung mit Jennifer Grey kommt 2024 endlich aus der Ecke

Nach zwei Jahren in der Ecke (oder zumindest der Filmentwicklungshölle) erscheint Jennifer Greys lang erwartete Fortsetzung Schmutziges Tanzen hat endlich einen Regisseur und ein Erscheinungsdatum gefunden. Als Vielfalt Berichte, Jonathan Levine (Die Verrücktheit, Totale) wird den Film irgendwann im Jahr 2024 in die Kinos bringen.

Der Rom-Com-Klassiker von 1987 spielte Grey als Frances „Baby“ Houseman, eine junge Frau, die sich 1963 in einem Catskills-Resort in den Tanzlehrer Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze) verliebt Schmutziges Tanzen, stammt aus Lionsgate und wird etwa 30 Jahre später in den Catskills stattfinden. Swayze starb 2009, aber Grey wird ihre Rolle als Baby wieder aufnehmen und gleichzeitig Executive Producer sein.

Levine hat das Drehbuch zusammen mit Elizabeth Chomko geschrieben, und wie er in einer Erklärung erklärte, wird dieser neue Film einige der ikonischen Musikstücke des Originals wiederverwenden – vielleicht ein Hinweis auf das Oscar-prämierte Lied „(I’ve Had) The Time meines Lebens“ – und beschäftigt sich gleichzeitig mit Levines großer Liebe zum Hip-Hop, die er erstmals in seinem Breakout-Film von 2008 erforschte Die Verrücktheit.

„Während das Original Schmutziges Tanzen war schon immer einer meiner Lieblingsfilme, ich hätte nie gedacht, dass ich bei der Fortsetzung Regie führen würde“, sagte Levine. „Durch das Mitschreiben habe ich mich in die Charaktere (neue und alte), die Welt von Catskills New York der 1990er Jahre und die Musik verliebt, die von Songs aus dem Originalfilm bis hin zu Hip-Hop der 90er reichen wird. Ich kann es kaum erwarten, mit Jennifer zusammenzuarbeiten, um diese wunderschöne Geschichte über Sommer, Romantik und Tanz einer Generation neuer Fans näherzubringen. Und den langjährigen verspreche ich, dass wir Ihre Kindheit nicht ruinieren werden. Wir werden die Aufgabe mit Raffinesse, Ehrgeiz und vor allem Liebe angehen.“

Lionsgate ist in die Welt von zurückgekehrt Schmutziges Tanzen ein paar Mal, obwohl keiner der Nachfolger die Popularität des Originals erreicht hat. 2004 veröffentlichten sie das Prequel Dirty Dancing: Nächte in Havannamit Diego Luna und Romola Garai, und 2017 brachten sie ein Remake fürs Fernsehen mit Abigail Breslin und Colt Prattes heraus.
